I have always been a big fan of and an avid reader of Dr. James Dobson’s books, but I was so glad when I go done with this audio-book. Your Legacy sounded more like a memoir that Dr. Dobson wanted to give his family a self-help and guide for parents on leaving a legacy for their child/children. When I first received the audio-book I was really excited to get started, but once I opened it up and started listening I became bored before I even got to the 2nd disc. This audio-book I thought was supposed to be about how parents can help their children with their faith and to help them become closer to God as well as how to leave their own legacy behind for their children, but I didn’t feel like it was.

The first few chapters had Dr. Dobson’s son Ryan, who narrates it, reading about their family through the generations and then it keeps going and Dr. Dobson wrote about people he had met throughout the years; both through his profession and his personal life. I understand Dr. Dobson felt the need to start the audio-book that way in order to show the readers what a legacy is, but it was still quite boring and I thought this would have been a great audio-book to fall asleep to. Once I got through those chapters then it started with how parents can help their child/children get to know and come closer to God and it also gave some stories that parents could read to their children. There are 6 discs in this audio-book and I thought that was too many; I feel like 3 discs should have been plenty to tell his legacy and to give parents some advice.

As I previously mentioned Ryan Dobson is the narrator of this audio book and also Dr. Dobson’s son. Mr. Dobson and his father cohost a radio show and he is also the VP of Family Talk as well as being an author. I felt like because he was the author’s son that he sounded a little too proud while reading this audio-book and I think it would have been better had the author had someone unbiased reading this because then the reader would know where more interesting parts of the book were; with Mr. Dobson narrating, it all sounded like it was supposed to be interesting.

I just didn’t really care for this audio-book! I still find Dr. Dobson a wonderful teacher and author and I still plan to read his other books, but I just didn’t think he did very well on Your Legacy like he has on other published books. I give Your Legacy a “4” and Dr. Dobson a “7”; I also give Ryan Dobson as narrator a “7.”
