Squirrel and John Muir
By Emily Arnold McGully
Floy
loves her life in Yosemite Valley. She got her nickname, “Squirrel”,
because she runs the forests like an agile spirit. Her parents own
a hotel, and her father writes magazine articles, drawing visitors
and tourists to their wilderness home, but as the tourists keep
coming, Floy’s father needs help keeping up with the changes.
John Muir shows up and takes on the job, but he ends up being more
than just a hired help. With his innocent love of nature and its
beauty, John Muir changes Squirrel’s outlook on life and the
world she’s always been able to lose herself in.
Based
on a true story, Squirrel and John Muir is a touching talk of energy,
curiosity, and innocence that both nature and an innocent heart
can contain. The illustrations are rustic and beautiful and the
story will warm anyone’s heart. I highly recommend this book. |
