Dawg Eyes: Still Top Dog
Second in a series
by Kam Ruble
Kam Ruble’s rascally angels, Randy and Jay, are on a mission from God. But they have to come back to earth as a dog
and a talking parrot -again. Apparently, they have been back in these forms in a previous book in this series. This
time Randy and Jay have to educate a town about pet overpopulation and have to come up with a way to not only bring
the issue up but offer suggestions for the townspeople. Leave it to these resourceful guys to come up with a plan that
works but is hilarious. When the town meeting is invaded by a passel of cats and dogs, the resultant antics would
envy any Marx Brothers movie!
Ruble’s characters are wisecracking but lovable. The concept of angel intervention in the form of animals is
charming and creates some unusual obstacles for these do-gooders.
I found the story funny and possible in the realm of animal fantasy. They will be a big hit with children. But
I thought that the first chapter, showing God expounding on the problems of pet overpopulation, to be a little
difficult for young readers. It actually got in the way of the story, though that information was vitally important
to telling the tale. But once I tracked Randy and Jay to earth and saw their animal lives unfold, the story took off.
I look forward to more adventures that Angel Randy and Angel Jay get into. |
