Happy Valentine's Day, Dolores
by Author/Illustrator Barbara Samuels
The irrepressible Dolores appears again with her much-abused sidekick, Duncan the cat -
this time Dolores can't resist getting into her sister Faye's stuff despite the big warning
sign Faye posted on her door. When Dolores pokes through her sister's dresser, she finds
a great singing froggie necklace. Naturally, she just has to wear it. That's when the
big trouble starts and Dolores' efforts to cover up her crime just make bigger and bigger
problems until Dolores is forced to concoct the biggest plot of all - a plot where poor
Duncan plays a starring role. Dolores's efforts seem a bit more the comic fare for eight
year olds than four - my six-year-old was terribly concerned about the poor put-upon
cat - but the bright comic illustrations add humor that any child can appreciate.
I can't say it was one of my favorite picture books, but for a Dolores lover, it's a nice
new outing with a sweet happy ending. |
