Baxter Moon, Galactic Scout

by John Zakour

Baxter Moon entered a video game contest and, much to his surprise, won a scholarship to the Galactic Academy of Scouts. Now he’s in training to be a deep space shuttle pilot.  The story begins with a hair-raising, simulated flight through a field of asteroids.  Baxter's crew is assigned their first serious mission with Baxter as the pilot of one of the space ships dispatched to find a missing ship and crew.  They have been captured by aliens who plan to "entertain" the earthlings to death. After  successfully completing the first mission, the crew's second mission is to rescue a beautiful, blue-haired, Aquarian princess.  The action gets fierce as the boisterous crew goes into action.

Baxter's commanding officer is a bio-engineered chimpanzee named GiS, who has no sense of humor. The other human characters are also genetically modified to have enhanced qualities; super strength: exceptional eyesight, and math and mechanical genius. There are many non-human characters as well...there is K999 who is a dog with human traits, and a number of robots and androids with endearing qualities.

John Zakour has created a world populated with unforgettable characters in an action packed, science fiction thriller. His wit and humor make it a fun read for tweeners, and perfect for reluctant readers.  Baxter is a character who would be well suited to a high adventure series.  Hopefully, we can look forward to more funny sci-fi stories from this talented writer.
