Charlie Bird:
The Best Bird Ever
by Linda Bird
This is the story of Charlie Bird, a Jenday Conure. Charlie’s featherless flock, Sara and Molly - Charlie's best
human friends - believe Charlie Bird to be "The Best Bird Ever".
Charlie Bird is an important part of the family. He eats with the family, plays with the family, and even
watches TV with the family. Charlie Bird is smart and is a lot of fun to be around.
Charlie is very fond of chewing. The more off-limits the object is (like the TV remote control) the more
Charlie enjoys chewing on it. Charlie takes numerous naps throughout the day, his wild bird friends come to visit
him each day, all of Charlie's shenanigans are a joy to read about. Charlie may be a little bird but he has a big
personality - he is an exceptional bird!
Charlie Bird: The Best Bird Ever makes a great book to read to children, or for them to read on their
own. Each page contains color photos of Charlie and a paragraph about him. This is a great way to teach children
about pet appreciation. I felt the shifting from reality to fantasy in chapters 4 & 6 distracted from Charlie's
story and the story would have been better if it had been one or the other instead of mixing both together in one
story. Overall, though, Charlie Bird: The Best Bird Ever is a delightful book children ages 9-12 will
truly enjoy. |
