God Gave Us Heaven

by Lisa Tawn Bergen
Illustrated by Laura J. Bryant

Lisa Tawn Bergen has written a splendid children’s book using polar bears as characters who come as close as any sermon to explaining what heaven will be like.

The whole story is composed of a talk between Papa Bear and Little Cub about the virtues of heaven.  Basically, they come to the same conclusion that most of us humans do: we don’t know what heaven will be like, but we know it will be terrific.

How satisfying it must be to a young reader and a seasoned adult to hear and grasp, "No more tears, no more sadness, no more pain.  Only smiles."

The text is beautifully illustrated by Laura J. Bryant with what I assume are polar bears since they live at Glacier Bay.  The combination of the text and illustrations makes for a warm, refreshing experience.

This book would be a nice choice to introduce small children to the greatness and love of God our Creator.  Children are more perceptive than we sometimes give them credit for and will absorb the story and its implications.
