Marco Flamingo
- Marco Flamenco
by Sheila Jarkins
Illustrated by the author
Marco loves to wait for his friends who migrate from the north every year and listen to their stories about snow and
winter. He wants to experience winter too. He asks his bird friends about winter and snow, but they just tell him,
"You don't want to know." The trouble is, Marco does want to know, but he is a flamingo, and they don't migrate. Then
Marco decides to travel north for the winter anyway. You won't believe what happens when a bird that is used to warm,
sunny days flies north in the middle of the winter. He has a great time skiing and skating and making snowmen.
Sheila Jarkins' bright, lively illustrations, along with the sparkly text, make this a visual journey into the
cold, told in both English and Spanish. The story and pictures will have your kids laughing out loud and begging you
to read it again. Marco is a rare bird, indeed.
This book would be a great addition to your children's library, and should be in every pre-school and elementary
program as a painless introduction to new words in another language. The final page is a vocabulary page that gives
key words in both English and Spanish. |
