Monday with a Mad Genius:
Magic Tree House #38
by Mary Pope Osborne
Illustrated by Sal Murdocca
The Magic Tree House series has some serious staying power. Both my eight-year-old daughter and my
eleven-year-old nephew love these books, and it takes something special to keep a loyal reader as a child gets
older. Number 38 in the series, Monday with a Mad Genius, shows how this series has worked its magic.
Jack and Annie travel back in time once again to meet Leonardo da Vinci and quickly learn that hanging out
with the premier genius of the Renaissance is a major adventure! Although the book did have a slightly slow
start (really, we didn't need to meet everyone in the marketplace just so we could have them tell us we just
missed Leonardo), my daughter and I were quickly caught up in the power of da Vinci's whirling mind. Plus, I
love that it ignited even more interest in da Vinci's work as she felt like she's been given a peek into the
man himself.
Exciting plots, cool historical details, and lively characters - that's how this chapter book series
works its magic. And I know our family will be eagerly waiting for the next installment. |
