O’Shaughnessey
A Boy and his Leprechaun

by Jeremy McGuire

This is Jeremy’s first work of narrative fiction, but you’d never know it. This book is a delight for young and old. I enjoyed reading this juvenile fiction tale about a boy named Bobby who wakes up one morning to find a leprechaun on his bed. And from there it takes on a sense of reality. As far fetched as it is you find yourself engrossed in the tale immediately and very interested to see where this little leprechaun, O’Shaughnessey, will take you.

Even though the tale is masculine in nature with a male lead character, I think girls will enjoy it just as much as boys.

The story weaves in and out of Bobby’s real life with his family, including his parent's divorce and his sister’s illness, but neither intrudes on the other’s reality. Rather, the leprechaun’s presence is a welcome and yet somewhat guiding experience. The reader will find the pen and ink drawings are a quite a nice addition to the story and skillfully done.

O’Shaughnessey takes Bobby on some interesting adventures and whether he is real or unreal simply doesn’t matter, it’s the fun of the adventure that keeps the reader interested.
