Princess Annado Tandy's Versery Rhymes
Book One

by Kam Ruble
Illustrated by T. C. McMullen

Kam Ruble has written a charming picture book in verse. The four chapters of Princess Annado Tandy's Versery Rhymes Book One are really four distinct poems concerning Princess Annado Tandy and the beings in her kingdom of Candy. The first deals with the fanciful princess's origins and how she founded her kingdom. The second deals with bigotry and how the candy beings bully Lemon and Lime Lollipop because they aren't sweet enough. The third is a creative way to count as the students of Candy present a program for the princess; and the fourth poem is a cute story about softening up Taffyman, who got a little too hard.

The book is filled with computer-generated art by T. C. McMullen. The pictures of the classroom students are clever depictions of different kinds of candy given human attributes.

Though Amazon lists the book for children ages 9-12, the book is really geared for much younger children - preschoolers, kindergarten students, and first graders. That is mainly due to the content, especially the counting section. Children of that age range would giggle over the candy creations in the princess’s realm. The reading level appears to be early primary grades as well.

The title of the book states that this is Book One. Young readers can expect more of the princess's versery rhymes soon. Kam Ruble is also the author of the Dawg books, a children's fantasy series about two angels who come down to earth as a collie and a parrot.
