Return to Zandria
Sequel to Talisman to Zandria
by Christine Norris
In this sequel to Talisman of Zandria, (also
reviewed on Myshelf.com) readers find Ivy, the spunky little girl who stumbled into this
alternative world, now a fashion-conscious freshman in high school who has practically forgotten about this
magical land. One late spring day, on a whim, she brings her best friend Lori into the forest to the portal that
once led her into Zandria. This time, she has a key. As Ivy uses it, Kaia, a fairy friend she had met before,
comes through the portal with news that Zandria is in crisis once more and Ivy is needed. This time, Lori
accompanies her, and both girls soon find themselves in the throes of winter in Zandria and plunge off to find
the wizard Arden to find out what has happened to freeze this magical land in perpetual winter. Once again, Ivy
rekindles her friendship with unicorns, dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and fairies - as well as the handsome
wizard’s apprentice, Conner.
Return to Zandria by Christine Norris is a fun read for young readers, full of adventure and
interesting mythological characters. Ivy’s resourcefulness and bravery are once again tested, as are those of
her friend Lori who has a little trouble adjusting to this fantasy realm. Lessons are learned, evil is
confronted, and friendships are strengthened. All in all, it is just good storytelling.
Norris has a winning combination with Ivy and the alternative reality of Zandria, but she also writes other
fantasies. She has a brand new book out, The Crown of Zeus. Its companion, The Ankh of Isis, will
be available this summer. |
