The Tutu Ballet
by Sally O. Lee
Illustrated by Sally O. Lee
Ballet class was every Saturday. The forest mothers brought their children to Ms. Berry’s class and watched proudly
as their children practiced their ballet moves. The class consisted of Belinda the bear, Mirabel the mouse, Harriett
the Hare, and Fillippo the Fox. Each one of the students had their own favorite ballet move. Belinda enjoyed kicking
her leg high. Harriett was a natural twirler. Fillippo was especially good at jumping. Mirabel could plie more than
anyone in class. None of the students ever seemed to grow tired of practicing their favorite move.
Ms. Berry had an idea to design a ballet recital that would highlight each student’s strengths. The night of the
recital came; all the mothers were in attendance, each filled with high anticipation. As the curtain rose, Belinda
appeared with her leg kicking high. Next, Harriett came twirling at a perfect, fast pace. Then Fillippo appeared
jumping high. Mirabel ended the show with one of her perfectly orchestrated plies.
From the sound of the audience approval the show was an instant success. The recital showed how working as team
all members were able to shine in the spotlight.
What child could resist the soft pastel shades that fill the pages of Sally O. Lee’s The Tutu Ballet? This
delightful story calls out to the young at heart and tells a very important story of how everyone has their
specialties but, working as a team, everyone wins. I predict this story will quickly become one of your child’s
favorite books. Sally O. Lee has once again provided her unforgettable illustration talent on top of her poetic
written words to create one unforgettable story. Very highly recommended. |
