Big Cat Pepper

by Elizabeth Partridge
Illustrated by Lauren Castillo

Big Cat Pepper addresses a very difficult situation—the death of a beloved cat. Big cat Pepper is an important part of the family, but the little boy in the story notices the family's pet hasn't been himself lately. When he asks his mother if Pepper is not well, she breaks the news that the cat is old and probably going to die.

Then Pepper doesn't wake up one morning and the child realizes his pet is gone. The grief process is handled with sensitivity as the author shows the child dealing with the loss of Pepper.

A situation like the one described here is always an emotionally wrenching one for a young child. Thanks to Lauren Castillo's illustrations and Elizabeth Partridge's rhyming text, this picture book will be of assistance for parents who must deal with the passing of a family pet. Appropriate for children three and older, you may have to go online or special order this book, but it is well worth the extra time involved.
