Fairy Glades and Other Enchanting Tales

by Dawn Beaumont-Lane

Dawn Beaumont-Lane's Fairy Glades and Other Enchanting Tales is a collection of nice little stories that can be read by young readers, but appear to be written for and more suited to be read to youngsters. One of the stories, "Teddy Bear Junction," tells the story of a steam train named Tilly Chuff and a teddy named, of course, Teddy Bear. These two heroes save the town of Leapylea from a serious accident on the way to Whiteleaf, where the townspeople go for groceries or a trip to the beach

In "Samantha the Lizard and Arty the Frog," the two characters find that they have more in common than they have differences—that is under their skin. This is a great message and not just for children.

Each of the stories conveys the idea of people helping people, and the author appends a little note to each story to explain the reason for the story. For example, at the end of "Teddy Bear Junction" the author writes, "Late at night on Christmas Eve, 1966, I sat staring at a blank piece of paper thinking of a story I could write so my daughter would find a gift on Christmas morning, therein keeping her belief in Father Christmas intact."

This is a nice collection of stories to read and discuss with young children.
