Finn Throws a Fit

by David Elliott
Illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering

As little as he is, Finn has mastered the art of throwing a really big, adult-sized fit. The toddler usually loves peaches for breakfast but NOT today. So, when a plate with a cut peach is placed in front of him, Finn goes ballistic!

Cranky as a little boy can possibly be, Finn shows quite graphically what can happen when he doesn't like anything. When this occurs there is—"Thunder in the nursery! Lightning in the kitchen! The house floods. An earthquake shakes the world. Tidal waves sweep through the living room."

All in all, this is not a very pleasant time to be around this or any other cute little tyke. Usually it is a time to batten down the hatches and try to ride out the emotional storm while hoping the neighbors don't call the police! And, as any parent knows, the fireworks display can cease as quickly as it starts.

Weathering a real child's temper tantrum is obviously not very funny, but David Elliot, with the help of illustrator Timothy Basil Ering, manages to capture the humorous side of this all-too-common occurrence. You and your child might as well get a few chuckles from the situation because, my bet is, you certainly weren't laughing the last time a storm like this blew through your household!
