Katy Duck Is a Caterpillar

by Alyssa Satin Capucilli
Illustrated by Henry Cole

In this fifth book in the Katy Duck series, the main character is ready to take the stage by storm in the spring dance recital. Convinced she will have a major role, Katy is surprised to discover she has been cast as a lowly caterpillar. Needless to say, the indomitable duck is not happy!

On the day of the big event, Katy is ready to crawl and wiggle her way through her small part when she suddenly remembers that caterpillars are transformed into beautiful butterflies. That becomes the basis for a wonderful change in the little duck and she begins to flutter and float about the stage as only she can. Admit the cries of "Bravo!" from the entranced audience, Katy manages to turn her role into something very special indeed.

The lesson here is very clear—even the smallest part can be made important if you put your "all" into it. Katy shows that a major disappointment can be made into something positive if you think about it!
