We followed Marco Flamingo
(reviewed at MyShelf) when
he migrated to the frozen North; and this time, Marco is entranced with the sea and wonders what
he might find there. Everyone warns him that it is no place for a flamingo, but he just has to
find out anyway. It takes him several tries to figure out just how he can go deep into the water
to visit with the animals and fish that live there. He tries using a reed to breathe through while
he swims, but that doesn't work very well, then he gets some snorkeling gear. He still can't go
deep enough to meet new friends. But then he found out about scuba diving gear, and he was in
business.
Now he can play all day in the water, at the top, and at the bottom and at all the places in
between, meeting all kinds of new friends. What fun. This book will have your kids laughing and
cheering for Marco as they learn new words in another language. They will want you to read it out
loud again and again.
Sheila Jarkins' colorful illustrations, along with the sparkly text, make this a visual journey
into the deep blue sea, told in both English and Spanish. This book would be a great addition to
your children's library, and should be in every pre-school and elementary program or as an
addition to your home school curriculum as a painless introduction to another language. The final
page is a vocabulary page that gives key words in both English and Spanish. Raven Tree Press is a
leading publisher of bilingual materials for young children, and they are such fun to read.
