Author Charlotte Cowan, a board-certified pediatrician, and illustrator Penelope Neal gives us a
delightful story of Miles and his bout with vomiting, then diarrhea, or what the author calls "loose
poops."
Miles, a four-year-old Moose, develops a tummy ache and then diarrhea. The reader is treated to a
wonderful little story that is an explanation of the cause, effect and cure for "loose poops."
The story contains two words or phrases that might offend some parents: "pee" and "loose poops;"
but they are used so delicately that they, in fact, add to the story rather than detract from it.
Additionally, the story offers practical advice to young readers about ways to prevent sickness,
including one that is easy to follow: wash your hands. The author has also included a little booklet
for parents on how to deal with this situation.
This book could be used as reading material in a health class in the lower grades. The
illustrations are vivid and match the text perfectly.
