Oscar and The Bat
A Book About Sound
Start with Science

Written and illustrated by Geoff Waring

This new "Start with Science" book introduces children to core science concepts through engaging stories featuring a curious cat named Oscar.

When Oscar hears a blackbird singing, a little bat swoops down to talk to the cat about various sounds. Oscar discovers that sounds are made in various ways and, even though he can't see the source of the sound, we can tell what its source is.

Whether it is a distant thunderstorm, tall, dry grass rustled by the wind, or the rain on the roof, the cat discovers sounds are not just made by living animals.

A few supplemental activities at the back of this picture book challenge the reader to apply some of what he or she has learned in this informative volume.
