Tiger Taming
The Pet Sitter Series, Book 1

by Julie Sykes
Illustrated by Nathan Reed

Max is looking for a way to earn a little extra money. Pet sitting sounds like a good idea until he answers an ad he sees in a pet store window.

Miss W. Itchy hires Max to feed her cat, Tiger, while she's away from home for a week. No sweat, right? Well, Max is about to find out that his first pet sitting job may well be his last!

First of all, Tiger is not a loveable little kitty but a smart-mouth feline with tons of attitude. Because he refuses to eat the food (canned critter tails), Max decides to give Tiger a little bat-wing juice... even though he has been told to keep the cat away from the special concoction.

Now he's in for a rough time because one slug of the forbidden beverage and Tiger really gets feisty. Before you can say "Trick or treat!", Tiger tangles with two nasty dogs owned by a rather nasty wizard named Grimboots. Even worse, Grimboots has a grudge against Tiger's owner and decides to kidnap the cat.

To get Tiger back Max is going to have to learn to master Miss W. Itchy's broom and one of her spare magical wands (Yes, she's a witch if you didn't figure it out already!). Well armed, Max is able to retrieve the stolen black cat and in doing so he bonds with his former feline adversary.

A perfect book to give beginning readers with Halloween looming large, Tiger Taming is a high interest chapter book with a very manageable vocabulary. Another plus is that since Nathan Reed’s accompanying illustrations are in pen and ink, the young reader can color them if he or she so desires.

Part of a new series, this Pet Sitter volume will delight those who like animals and a little adventure. Now that Max has successfully launched his new career, there will be many more exciting and humorous adventures awaiting this intrepid pet sitter.
