Too Tall Alice

by Barbara Worton
Illustrated by Dom Rodi

Author Barbara Worton and illustrator Dom Rodi have published a much-needed book on the subject of being different in Too Tall Alice.

Alice is four inches taller than the other girls in her class.  Although her mother, teacher, and doctor tell her she is perfectly normal, Alice has trouble coming to grips with her situation.  Alice’s father doesn’t help matters with his remarks about Alice being a string bean, a bean pole and other names that Alice does not want to hear.

Then she has a dream in which she truly sees that it’s not only o.k. to be different but sometimes advantageous.

This book is sure to be a staple in early reading classes to shore up the esteem of students who consider themselves different and to teach "normal" students that there is no such thing.  All of us are different and we need to accept others as they are if we want the same consideration for ourselves.  This is a children’s book but should be read by to a youngster by an adult.
