With My Organ Buddies, Lee and Felice Downing have written an excellent book that
introduces your readers to the names and functions of their solid organs.
The alliterative names, Sydney the Kidney, Bart the Heart, Pat the Pancreas, and Louise
and Louie the Lungs, will get and hold the attention of young readers as they learn the
locations and functions of these organs. The authors have not overdone the information they
provide. The way it is given is suitable for the age group targeted.
The book can be read aloud, used for independent reading, or as a classroom text. The
authors provide additional classroom information, including a vocabulary page, a word seach
activity, connect the dots, and a crossword puzzle. All these activities deal with material
covered in the text.
This book would make an excellent addition to classrooms that work with young students.
