Olivia Goes to Venice
Olivia, book 8

by Ian Falconer

In her first new adventure in three years, Olivia is off to beautiful Venice on a family vacation. From start to finish this will be a journey to remember. Although she probably won’t need her snorkel and flippers, the little white pig will still need to pack carefully for this special visit.

After her arrival and a good night’s sleep, Olivia is off to explore the wonders of Venice. Finding some gelato is high on her list of things to do, as is seeing the Grand Canal and strolling across Piazza San Marco.

Maybe feeding the pigeons in the square wasn’t such a good idea (there were way too many) but taking a gondola ride certainly was.

Finally, it is time to purchase something to remember Venice by. What will Olivia select? A chandelier? Some lace, or a mask? Or perhaps some perfume? Actually, it is none of the above.

What Olivia selects is rather surprising because of what happens afterward. It may be a simple object, but it will serve as a reminder for the citizens of Venice for years afterwards that Olivia visited their fair city!

The Olivia series of books has been very popular with young readers and this one is sure to be a favorite with youngsters who have followed the little pig’s other misadventures.
