You Are My Sunshine
Toot & Puddle

by Holly Hobbie

"It was morning in Woodcock Pocket. The sun was shining, birds were singing, blossoms were bursting. and Toot was moping."
- You are my Sunshine by Holly Hobbie, 2010.

Puddle the pig tells Tulip the parrot everyone mopes sometimes. But they soon discover Toot (another little pig) mopes and mopes and mopes—his ears are too big, his eyes too small, he's too pink. He's just not happy at all.  Puddle and Tulip try to cheer Toot up, but nothing works—not even a five berry pie or a sing-along with friends Ginny, Otto and Phil. Oh what will they do.?

Toot and Puddle are popular in books and TV. In book form the watercolor illustrations are charming and detailed enough to make little ones smile. The page where Puddle has everyone singing is adorable. And Toot's expression at the sight of the five-berry pie is comical. I think some of pages would frame nicely—such as Puddle chasing the butterfly on page two and Tulip trying to cheer Toot up with a lollipop on page nine.

After you read Toot and Puddle you can treat the little ones to the tasty recipes on tear-out sheets at the back of the book.

Holly Hobbie's Toot & Puddle series is delightful and easy to read—a children's' series destined to become a family tradition.
