Part of the Read-to-Read series, this Level 2 book offers an interesting story, varied sentence structure and paragraphs and short chapters for the child ready for a slightly more interesting reading experience.

Summer has arrived and Annie is having all sorts of fun with her cousin Henry and his dog, Mudge. When the pair sees a sign at the local library inviting youngsters to join the “Book Bugs Club”, Annie wants to immediately join, but her cousin isn’t sure he wants to.

They do decide to sign up, though, and both children receive a notebook to keep track of all the books they read. Not only will they get stickers and stars for the books they read, but the children will also be invited to a special book picnic.

Getting started right away, both Annie and Henry check out a lot of books. Then they read, and read, and read. While Henry likes reading adventure books, Annie much prefers stories with princesses in them.

When they attend the club’s picnic, Annie and Henry meet other children who love to read and they share ideas about other titles that each might like. Everyone has a wonderful time at the picnic, including Mudge who gets to eat all the leftover food!
