When Joe hears
a knock at the door, imagine his surprise when he sees his former
pet penguin Osbert standing on the porch with a group of other penguins.
Osbert has been staying at the zoo to be with his own kind but here
he is now, asking a favor of Joe.
There is a big penguin gathering at the South Pole and Osbert wants
Joe to fly him and his buddies there in Joe’s new helicopter.
Always game for a new adventure, Joe agrees and the little boy and
his cargo of penguins are soon heading south.
Upon their arrival, Joe realizes it is not just the southern lights
or the chance to party with his friends that is the big attraction.
Osbert is infatuated with Aurora Australis, a female penguin.
The return trip home meant Aurora was also part of the passenger
list because the two romantically inclined penguins never wanted
to be separated again.
Naturally, Joe found room for one more passenger and off they went
back to their warmer home.
This delightful story is also accompanied by instructions on how
to hold your own midwinter party with recipes for both Southern
Lights Extravaganza Punch (sherbet, ginger ale and cranberry juice)
and Black-and-White Penguin Cookies
