Lobo is a wolf who is convinced that he must eat
rabbit stew while the moon is full or he will go cuckoo. I think
he may be cuckoo already, but he has discovered a little bunny that
is home alone. Mama Rabbit had to go pick lettuce, but she warned
baby bunny that he must not let anyone in while she is gone.
Lobo is determined to have rabbit stew, and he tries a variety of
temptations to get bunny out of his burrow, but the wise little
rabbit outwits Lobo every time. Lobo is adorable, even if he is
the bad guy in this story.
The setting
is in the southwest, and the complicated illustrations show the
southwest desert in all its glory. Amy Huntington transfers her
sketch to an illustration board and then finishes it off with a
mixed media technique, using oils and colored pencils for detail.
The kids will love searching out all the details, and each time
they look, they will find something new.
This book is bilingual: English/Spanish. The text is mostly English
but has Spanish sprinkled throughout. The Spanish words are in a
context where the reader can usually figure out the meaning without
looking it up. This story is perfect for introducing children to
a new language. It is also available in an English-only version.
