A lumberjack,
Jean du Bois, on his way to live on his retirement farm finds an
orphaned baby moose. Raised in the barnyard, Muskeg is adopted by
Kate, the gentle, old workhorse on the farm, but the horse becomes
too old and tired and is finally unable to work. Jean worries that
he will have to sell the farm with no help to do the work. In the
meantime, Muskeg grows bigger and stronger and is encouraged to
return to the wild, but he can't leave his friends. A happy solution
is found by Jean's grandson and Muskeg when they hitch him up in
Kate's harness to pull a Christmas tree home.
Susan Beckhorn writes from a unique perspective. . .the everyday
life of a rescued moose calf is an innovative story plot that will
make an exciting bedtime story. Set in Maine with French-Canadian
characters, this beautiful book - - with the refreshing watercolor
paintings of Amy Huntington- - will entertain and teach children
of all ages. Moose Power: Muskeg Saves the Day contains French-Canadian
words and phrases with translations and pronunciations at the end
of the book. |
