A Pre-level One book in the Ready-to-Read series, this is an excellent entry level story for a child ready to begin reading. Familiar characters, very short sentences, and a simple vocabulary with lots of repetition make this a story that the child should be able to master fairly quickly.

Dora's little, brown puppy loves to roll in the dirt. She fills a tub of water to give him a bath, but then Dora's puppy runs off and hides. "No! My puppy is not in the bushes. Is my puppy hiding in the flowers? No! My puppy is not in the flowers."

The search continues until Dora comes up with a great idea. She holds up the puppy's bone and when he sees it, he comes running. Now it is bath time!

Short and sweet, this simple story will quickly give the beginning reader the confidence he or she needs to move on to another story and the next level of difficulty. That's exactly what you want to happen so that your child can begin to enjoy the thrill of reading rather than just looking at the pictures.
