Parents of beginning
readers will discover that this little book offers not only
more text than you often find in books of this nature, but
the repetition that helps the child also master the narrative
is highlighted in red. The idea is that an adult or older
child reads the text printed in black ink and the beginning
reader chimes in when the red words appear.
Dubbed “an alphabetical story”,
you’ll see that the key words also take you through
the alphabet. So you’ll begin with “air”,
“bell” and “camel” and continue on
until you get to “water”, “X-road”,
“yo-yo” and “zoo”.
Frankly, the story may seem a bit odd because
the author works so hard to get the key words into the narrative.
Probably a young reader won’t mind the problem with
a somewhat nonsensical narrative because children love silly
stories anyhow. Mom and dad will just have to set their higher
standards for a “meaningful” storyline aside and
go with the flow!
