There's
not much to this book when it comes to a story since the text
consists entirely of words like "flash, drip, splash
and buzz." The illustrations showcase a group of preschoolers
as they encounter various types of weather and the changing
seasons.
To suggest
this picture book is appropriate for children four years of
age and older is a bit much. Younger children would perhaps
appreciate it but not the targeted age group.
I would
use this book with a three year old who was close to being
ready to make sounds to fit situations. After you have paged
through "Boom Boom" a few times, I think the youngster
could begin to supply the sound effects and match the words
and pictures. This would be a good pre-reader if used in this
way. Otherwise, I'd pass on a book that is not very challenging
and is really just a collection of pretty pictures of children
playing outdoors.
