Because she bakes bread for a special treat with honey, Baby Bear wants to give his mother a special surprise gift. While at school Baby Bear paints a picture of his mother. But on the way home the little fellow shows his artwork to some of his animal friends.

Although they like the portrait, each of Baby Bear's friends suggests making a slight change. Owl thinks it should feature large eyes while Ben the alligator believes a much larger mouth is necessary. Of course each animal is suggesting a change that mirrors one of his/her own features.

Of course, with all the alterations the picture looks nothing little Baby Bear's mother by the time he arrives home. Although she is a bit surprised, his mother naturally says she loves it and then they both sit down for some bread and jam.

An excellent book for children just beginning to master reading, the text here is not overly demanding. Also, toddlers will love the silly story and colorful illustrations that make this book one they will want to read aloud again and again.
