In
this level one read-to-read reader, Melvin, the green cement
mixer, receives a mysterious, unsigned valentine’s card.
Who could have given it to him? Melvin goes all over Trucktown
trying to solve the mystery but no one seems to know where
the card came from.
Eventually the mystery is solved but I won’t share where
the card came from. If you are a careful reader there are
plenty of hints that suggest who the sender really is so try
to figure it out for yourself.
Boys and girls too love the large illustrations of various
types of trucks featured in this series. This makes even the
reluctant reader more willing to try his or her hand at reading
this level one beginning reader. Don’t let the fact
that this is a Valentine’s Day book get in the way of
a decent story. The mystery element will work anytime and
you’ll probably find “Melvin’s Valentine”
will become one of your child’s favorite books.
