It is
Ivan's birthday and Babushka plans to make him a special fruit-filled
birthday cake. Unfortunately they are out of cherries, so
Ivan has to go to a nearby orchard to get some. The trip to
the orchard becomes a bit of a misadventure, which leaves
poor Ivan rather out of sorts, but he does get his birthday
cake in the end.
Using
Russian dolls as her inspiration, Celine Dupont has created
a rhyming text that is a bit nonsensical, but the art is so
good that young readers will probably not mind the quirky
narrative.
If after
reading this story you have a hankering for some cherry cake,
the author has included the recipe at the end of the book.
You'll love the vibrant illustrations, and a piece of tasty
cake will be an added and much appreciated bonus that will
make this book a much remembered experience.
