Owen likes to play soccer but he's not terrible good at it. One day he takes his eye off the ball and it bounces away. The bulk of this picture book with its simple watercolor illustrations follows the path of the ball and the small boy's pursuit of it.

As he attempts to chase the ball down, Owen races across a stream, tracks it through some bushes and follows it as it bounces off a small cliff. Along the way he appears to be transformed into a fish, tiger and even a bird. Once the ball is retrieved the boy returns it to the field where he decides that from now on he will always "keep his eye on the ball".

Not the most inspired picture book imaginable, this volume may appeal to youngsters who like chasing balls and aren't very demanding when it comes to coherent storylines.
