When you look at the cover of this book, you automatically think this is another book on cleaning up the environment…Well, guess what? It is! But it's not just about cleaning up and protecting nature. It's also about saving OUR environment--our neighborhoods, our schools, our family and friends, our towns, our cities, our rights, our freedoms--everywhere and everything around us that can be damaged, destroyed, or taken away. From stopping things like Racism and Sexism to stopping corporate destruction of forests and homes, this book tells the stories of kids who have changed and are STILL changing their schools, communities, and cities for the better and how other kids can make a difference, too.

First, you learn about kids throughout history who have fought for their rights and the rights of others. From the Children of Independence to Samantha Smith (the young girl who helped to end the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union), you will read about all the wonderful, heroic children who have given their hearts and souls into saving the world they love so much. Next, you learn about kids who are making a huge difference in their schools, communities, towns, and cities. And last, but certainly not least, you learn how YOU can make a difference where YOU live! There is a handbook in the last part of the book that gives you tips, suggestions, and ideas for how to change things in your neighborhood, town, or city.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a great collection of stories that most people have never heard about kids who have and have had the courage to stand up for what they believe in and fight for it. The set up is great because by the time you get to the handbook, you'll have a THOUSAND things running through your head that you could do to help your community! I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to motivate kids to do something for themselves and others that will benefit the whole world…even if that world it benefits is just theirs.
