Volcanoes!
Time For Kids
by Time for Kids Editors with Jeremy Caplan
What could possibly be cooler than volcanoes? Okay, maybe dinosaurs, but volcanoes run a
close second, making this a great subject for a Time for Kids reader. At level three,
this book contained some challenging reading for my first grader, but she was so fascinated
by the presentation that she stuck with it. The photographs of erupting volcanoes were
very dramatic and caught reader attention right away, and the text met the challenge of
those dramatic photos well. "Kaboom! Flaming hot rocks spew from the peak" - the
text is filled with spewing, bursting, and exploding. This would be a great book for the
reluctant reader who loves facts but isn't quite as crazy about reading. The drama and
excitement married with this text and photo collection just might get a kid hooked on reading! |
