Coloring
books are the latest craze, with adults discovering how relaxing
they can be. Here is one aimed at younger colorists but which
still has plenty in it to please adults. The author is a textile
designer and the eighteen designs in here are taken from her
fabrics. Inside the back cover are color wheels and some basic
advice about using color but apart from that it is nicely
filled with drawings to make your own. Unlike a lot of modern
coloring books this one sensibly has not printed the pictures
back to back but on just one side. This means you can use
whatever you like to color it in although if you are using
permanent markers or paints placing a sheet of paper under
the picture (or cutting it out first) would be a good idea.
The paper is good quality and white, each picture having a
simple line frame. Designs include birds, butterflies, flowers,
abstracts and my own favorite, an elephant. Some offer the
option of adding a bit more design if you like to doodle and
there is a bookmark to detach from the cover. I’ve seen
bigger, thicker or more detailed coloring books but this one
has a nice twist – patterns from fabric – and
the added bonus of good quality paper printed on only one
side.
This book is one of six titles to date, all with the same
quality paper and other attributes. Choose from Playful Designs,
Fantastical Designs, Swirling Designs, Doodle Designs and
Whimsical Designs.
