It is 2013 and a scientist has at last found a way of reviving cryogenically frozen corpses and restoring them to life.  Working for him in his Alaskan laboratory is LaNaya Seville, ostensibly as a physical therapist but possessing empathic healing powers passed down to her from her Inuit ancestors.  When the dead come to life something terrible happens – their souls are restored to them by destroying the living people they have been reincarnated as and soon the human race is under threat as the astral world intrudes and evil entities are able to break out.  It is up to LaNaya and her friends to stop this happening and return the dead to their afterlife.

Stories about beautiful women with psychic gifts are not exactly rare but several things lift this one out of the common.  La Naya struggles with her darker side as much as with her supernatural enemies which makes for a more well-rounded heroine and the author has wisely included enough about life in 2013 for a strong background but not let it swamp the story in improbable imaginings.  The remote Arctic Alaskan setting gives an otherworldly backdrop to a tale of souls from the afterlife, weird science and – for a change – friendship rather than a love interest that would have seemed out of place had it been included.  It all adds up to a bubbling cauldron of story and a worthy addition to Speculation Press’ reputation for something a little different.  Well worth reading in fact.
