Great
Short Works of Herman Melville
By Herman Melville
Everybody
knows who (or should I say what) the infamous Moby Dick is. Herman
Melville was the author of that classic epic, but not many people
know that Melville wrote many other stories that match and even
go beyond Ishmael's story of his hunt of a gigantic white whale.
That is why it was a great idea for Perennial Classics to release
an anthology of Melville's greatest short stories.
From "Bartleby,
the Scrivener" to "The Encantadas", these stories
are what pushed Melville into the lime-light along with his famous
tale of a beautiful, elusive white whale. I am majoring in English
and have always had a great admiration for Melville and his colleagues
(like Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of "The House of Seven Gables"
and "The Scarlet Letter"), and was ecstatic when I was
handed this book of his short stories to review. I recommend this
book to anyone who is a fan of the great American writers of our
time. His writing has been an inspiration to some of America's greatest
writers and will remain an inspiration for all the greats to come.
