To love, honor, and obey in sickness and in health, for better or worse, for as long as we both shall live -
Traditional Wedding Vow
Dave and Clarice Johnson had once been deeply in love but fifteen years filled with much change had shattered
their once strong union. Clarice is career driven and doesn’t understand why Dave isn’t more supportive of her
desire to climb the corporate ladder. Dave feels that Clarice is not the same woman he married, she has changed
from a once caring person to a woman intent only on landing a powerful position in real estate.
On the night of the realtor’s award banquet Dave’s job makes him late. Clarice is quick to blame him for not
respecting her enough to be on time for such an important event. The couple’s argument continues throughout the
entire drive to the banquet when out of nowhere a car crashes into theirs. Clarice is trapped in the vehicle and
Dave fears for her life. He pleads with her to be strong and stay with him.
Emergency personnel arrive and are able to free Clarice and rush her to the emergency room. Dave prays for her
recovery. Each moment without any news is pure torture. When the doctor is finally able to inform him of Clarice’s
prognosis Dave learns her leg has been broken in multiple places that will require extensive physical therapy.
Clarice grows bitter over her confinement and takes her frustration out on Dave. Through their church they
hire a physical therapist. Julie is an expert in her field and Dave is immediately drawn to her kind and caring
nature. The warmth she shows him is something that has been missing from his own marriage. He finds himself faced
with the temptation to allow a relationship with Julie to develop or to stay faithful to his own marriage vows.
Not Easily Broken is one of the most gripping books I have yet to read in 2006. The plot and characters
are richly developed to the extent you question if they are real or a work of fiction. The author has shown a
tremendous amount of character development, allowing the story to flow smoothly from one passage to the next.
Readers will gain a true appreciation for this author’s talent and writing ability through this memorable book.
Very highly recommended.
