The Choice

by Nicholas Sparks
Read by Holter Graham

Travis is "a man on a solitary journey,"; a man who lives his life and makes choices he believes to be his destiny. Gabby Holland doubts her future. In fact, she's not sure whose life she is living.

Travis and Gabby are neighbors in a small southern costal town. Gabby is in love with Kevin, so her first reaction to Travis is defensive. Travis tells his friends he hasn't really thought about his new neighbor. Then an emergency brings them together. Gabby continues to play defense, but Travis has already made his choice.

Travis takes listeners 11 years into the past, where he and Gabby first met. Then he brings them back to the present when things aren't so great. Scenes at the beginning seem a bit clichéd. Gabby is flighty - she's committed, yet goes places with Travis knowing he's interested. Travis seems calm and intelligent. The Choice turns from cliché to utterly romantic and poignant. It's a sweet tale that needs to be shared.

Holter Graham narrates this haunting, tender love story. Use your headphones, so you don't ruin it for others.
