The Lucky One

by Nicholas Sparks
read by John Bedford Lloyd

U.S. Marine Logan Thibault is on his third tour of duty in Iraq.  While on patrol, he discovers a picture half buried in the sand.  When he uncovers the picture, he sees that it is of a woman.  He starts to leave it where it is, but something compels him to take it with him.  He posts it on the lost and found board, but no one comes forward to claim it.  He makes the decision to retrieve the picture and carry with him. From the moment he starts to carry the picture, his luck changes for the better.  His friends try to convince him he owes his "lady luck" to the mysterious woman in the picture.

Once Logan’s tour of duty ends, he returns to his home in Colorado.  His mind refuses to let go of the mysterious lady in the picture.  He decides to track her down and ends up in Hampton, North Carolina.  In Hampton, he accepts a dog trainer’s job, working for an elderly lady named Nana and her granddaughter, Elizabeth.  He keeps it a secret that Elizabeth is the one that he has been searching for since he left Iraq.

Logan doesn’t reveal his true motive for coming to Hampton.  He is going to take the opportunity to get to know Elizabeth better to see if his feelings exist in real life.  Could destiny have played a hand in bringing this couple together?  Will their love be strong enough to keep them together?

WOW!  I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience Nicholas Sparks’s newest offering, The Lucky One.  The book has it all with its high action drama, emotional interaction, and a sense of mystery, all contained in this riveting audio.  This definitely is one of the best books that Sparks has penned yet.  Very highly recommended.
