Another Review at MyShelf.Com

Made in the USA

by Billie Letts

Made in the USA, by Billie Letts, is what I will call the best little book that I have read this summer!  As with a lot of the books that I review for MyShelf.com, this is an author I am not very familiar with, having never gotten the opportunity to read her work before.  I will rectify that, as I hope that I can catch up with her past books and will definitely read any new books she writes.

Lutie McFee and her brother Fate have had what you would call a horrendous life, a life that no child should ever have to face growing up.  Unfortunately, you live with the cards you are dealt, so Lutie decides to do just that.

Her father takes off, never to be heard from again, and leaves Lutie and Fate in the care of his ex-girlfriend.  While shopping at Wal-Mart, said girlfriend dies of a heart attack and Lutie, using her head, or thinking that she is, decides to take off with her brother Fate in search of their Dad at his last known address, Las Vegas, Nevada.  Did I forget to mention, Lutie does not have a drivers license and she is only 15 years old?

After stealing food and gas along the way to survive, the two finally arrive in Las Vegas.  Now what?  Well I could tell you all of the details, but ruining this wonderfully written book is not what a review should do, so you will have to read it from here.

What I can divulge is this, pick up the book and you won't put it back down until you have read the entire book, cover to cover. It's that good!!!
