Cool Woman
A Novel
By John Aubrey Anderson
Bill Mann has always wanted to be a pilot. Now, at the top of his
class in the Air Force Academy, he is about to make his dream come
true. As a young black man, he is haunted by the fact that he killed
two white men when he was ten years old, after they beat his mother
to death. He meets a beautiful young woman, and after a whirlwind
romance, Pip agrees to marry him. He is sure that life can't get
any better.
He is assigned duty in the Vietnam war zone. As a premier Air Force
pilot, he faces daily danger flying his plane, The Cool Woman,
in one of the most hazardous wars in history. When his wife, Pip,
decides to seek a divorce, the young pilot turns to liquor and partying
whenever he is not in the air. The downward spiral of Bill's life
seems irreversible until enemy bullets take Bill Mann out of the
game and the story takes a completely new turn.
The Christian inspirational aspects of this story are uplifting
and the ending satisfying. Bill Mann is a sympathetic and compelling
character. Anderson has crafted an action filled plot that captures
the reality of flying and fighting as could only be done by someone
who has experienced it at firsthand. War history buffs will appreciate
the accurate portrayal of life in the Viet Nam war zone and the
constant risks that the pilots faced.
