Pie Town, New Mexico, is home to Anglos, Hispanics and Native
Americans, none of whom seem to like each other or even try to get
along. That is until it comes to Alex, a little boy with a huge
heart, born with a tough disability.
Alex was born with Spinal Bifida and was soon abandoned by his
mother, Angel. As for his father, only Angel knows who he is and
she’s not around to tell. Luckily Alex is being raised by
loving grandparents and great-grandparents and the whole town rallies
around to help him. Everyone loves the tough little boy with the
heart of gold.
Enter the new priest, Father Morris, and a hitchhiker he has brought
with him—a young girl named Trina. Father Morris is newly
ordained and the town does not quickly warm up to him. Trina is
a young woman traveling alone, obviously pregnant and immediately
branded as trouble.
Alex takes a shine to both the Priest and the hitchhiker and through
his love and generosity of spirit the story of how a bitter little
town and its inhabitants draw together is one well worth reading.
I have read a couple of Lynne Hinton’s other books, including
“Friendship Cake” and I love the way she draws characters
and then draws the reader in and makes them care.
Pie Town is the first in a new series and I eagerly await
the next one. For further information, there are no pies in Pie
Town. Sad, huh?
