This is the
story of five surgeons. Every time a surgeon cuts open the human
body they are betting that their skills have the ability to overcome
the life threatening procedures they must perform to save that patients
life. Most times they are right. But, sometimes they're wrong. At
Chelsea General, these surgeons answer for bad outcomes at the Morbidity
and Mortality Conference, known as M&M. This incredible look
behind the scenes into what is considered to be one of the most
secret meetings in the world of medicine is the groundwork for Sanjay
Gupta M.D.'s first novel.
Monday Mornings
follows the lives of these five surgeons not only in their everyday
trials of life, but also as they push their skills to the limits
and confront their personal and professional mistakes, often in
front of their peers at M&M. Doctor Gupta, who is also a practicing
neurosurgeon, gives us a rare opportunity to see into the high-pressure
world of medicine as he presents to us a finely drawn out picture
of how surgeons learn - through their mistakes.
Doctor Gupta
is a medical correspondent for CNN, a practicing neurosurgeon at
Emory University Hospital and associate chief of service at Grady
Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. I have seen Dr. Gupta many times throughout
the years on CNN. I had a feeling this would be a good book, and
I was right. It is written very well so that we non-medical people
can understand what is going on. I was very impressed with it.
Christian Rummel,
who reads this book, has a very pleasant voice and does an excellent
job. He is easy to listen to. He has narrated over one hundred audiobook
titles in a variety of genres. I highly recommend this book.
