Lucy
Harrison has a nice life…really. She has her very own
bookstore, a close family, lifelong friends and a bit of excitement
courtesy of the fire department where she volunteers. And
she has knitting – her passion, her comfort, and a constant
presence in her life. If sometimes she senses that there is
more to life, well, she can close that door pretty quickly.
Then, Owen Bancroft suddenly appears in town and back in Lucy’s
life. Owen Bancroft…the town bad boy, the one who got
away – well, ran away years ago. With his life upside
down, time on his hands, and a sick mother, Owen plans to
be in Cypress Hollow for a very short amount of time; too
short to get attached to anyone or anything. But life has
its own plans sometimes.
Years
before, Owen’s mother was a knitter – one with
great talent and creative, artistic friends. When, against
her better judgment, Lucy helps Owen sort through his mother’s
history, she finds valuable and long-lost knitting patterns.
Can these patterns help Lucy knit a new life? Can they pierce
the fog of Owen’s mother’s mind? Can they tie
Lucy and Owen together?
I have
to say that I have never even tried knitting, never thought
I wanted to. But Rachael Herron’s sweet book makes me
want to pick up needles and yarn and give it a try. Knitting
is truly the tie that binds the women of Cypress Hollow together,
that gives them friendship and community. Lucy’s love
of yarn, her home, and Owen are all tied up with a beautiful
knitted bow. How To Knit a Heart Back Home is a lovely
book; it makes you feel good, like a warm blanket on a cold
night. I wanted to visit Cypress Hollow, have a cool drink,
and get to know everyone just a little better.
