The edition I had received of this title was an audio-book edition and it was a short audio-book compared to most I have heard before. At the beginning of the audio-book I thought it was going to be a story about a little boy growing up, but by the time the second and third chapters began I found that this book was more about people who in one way or another are all connected in some strange way. I loved the chapter that had to do with “Anna” and her friend “Edie” and what it was like when she was younger. I didn't realize that in later chapters that the “Anna” mentioned was the same one from earlier chapters until she mentioned her mom and dad dying. I was rather surprised to find that out.

There were no deaf characters in this story. This book isn't a holiday read and I feel like had I been reading a hardback copy of this title it would be more short stories than an actual work of fiction! I really enjoyed this audio-book and I think Ms. Dugan did a wonderful job writing this. The only problem I had with this story was the way it had ended; I kept expecting the story to continue especially because the way it abruptly cut off. I wish it had ended a little differently and I would have liked to hear if “Anna” and “Edie” stayed friends throughout their lives and if “Edie” was still a big part of “Anna’s” life at the time her and “Peter” got married.

I think Sandy Ruston did a wonderful job narrating this story; there were even a few times I found it funny the way Ms. Ruston tried to take on a man’s voice and sound different for each of the characters. I just wish there hadn't been so many curse words used throughout the entire book. The only word I didn't like hearing so much of was “g**damn”. I think a lot of avid readers would enjoy reading this book; I don’t recommend the audio-book be heard around small children and the book shouldn't be read by kids or teens alike.
